Court restrains release of Ram-leela.

Before 72 hours of release of Ram-leela, A Delhi court has restrained Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali from releasing the film starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.

The film is based on Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet and is sub-titled "Goliyon ki Rasleela, Ram-Leela".According to the petition, the term "Ramlila" has been historically associated with the plays depicting the life of Hindu god Ram. Since the movie is based on a love story and is not related to the conventional meaning attributed to Ramlila, the petitioners claim that the producers are "deliberately and intentionally" using the term to attain commercial success.

Additional district judge AS Jayachandra, in an ex-parte interim order, restrained Bhansali and Eros promoters from releasing the movie till further orders.

The court considered the plea that Ram-leela, slated for an all-India release on November 15, allegedly hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus as it contains sex, violence and vulgarity.

The Delhi high court had earlier refused to ban the movie and also imposed a cost of Rs. 50,000 on an NGO which had moved the plea against the film.
