Pakistan Bans ‘Raanjhanaa’

Pakistan Bans ‘Raanjhanaa’.Bollywood film ‘Raanjhanaa’, which was supposed to release in Pakistan at the end of June, has been banned because of its alleged “controversial theme”.

This has not been the first time a Bollywood film has faced the ire of Pakistan’s conservative censor board. Earlier films like ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘GI Joe’, ‘Agent Vinod’ were banned by the CBFC for their “controversial” themes and “anti-Pakistan” sentiments. And going by the trend, it certainly doesn’t look like ‘Raanjhanaa’ will be the last to face such opposition in the neighbouring country.

The Pakistan Film Censor Board allegedly banned the Sonam Kapoor- Dhanush starrer on the basis of an “inapt portrayal of a Muslim girl falling in love with a Hindu man.” Chief Executive Officer of IMGC Global Entertainment Amjad Rasheed, the importer of ‘Raanjhanaa’ into Pakistan, said that he received a letter from Pakistan’s CBFC, directing the stay of the film’s release.
Rasheed clearly said “The letter from CBFC states that the film portrays an inapt image of a Muslim girl (played by Sonam Kapoor) falling in love with a Hindu man and having an affair with him.”
